About Riverbend
A family-first academy on the mats since 2015.
Riverbend Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is a family-first martial arts school in Front Royal, Virginia, serving the Shenandoah Valley since 2015. We teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, boxing, and kids MMA in a single welcoming room where beginners are the whole point.
This is a place for the whole family. Kids, teens, and adults of every experience level train side by side with the same small, hands-on coaching staff every week. No experience is expected, and no one is pushed into anything advanced on day one. You learn at your level, with people your age, in the same welcoming culture that runs through everything we do.
Riverbend was founded and is led by Professor Robert Hupman, a first-degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt who is affiliated with and competes under PACE Jiu Jitsu and Professor Lucas "Hulk" Barbosa. He is joined by black belt instructor Professor Drew Nicholson and youth coach Matthew Armentrout. Together they keep the culture and values of the academy consistent from the top down, so every person who walks through the doors feels welcome, can train hard, and knows they belong.
